Sayville Chamber of Commerce Working with Local Authorities to Address Towing in Sayville Plaza Shopping Center

SAYVILLE, NEW YORK-April 15, 2015- The Greater Sayville Chamber of Commerce has been alerted to the recent towing of cars from the Sayville Plaza Shopping Center and has reached out to Councilwoman Trish Bergin Weichbrodt, Councilman Steve Flotteran, Town of Islip, the Suffolk County Police Department and the owner of the lot and their legal counsel.

While the Chamber has limited recourse, they are still dismayed by the towing and have been working with appropriate authorities and parties involved to resolve the situation so that residents and visitors can safely park in Sayville to patronize all of our business and enjoy the town.

While the situation is still being resolved, the Chamber offers the following guidance to residents and patrons of Sayville businesses:

  • Do not park in the Sayville Plaza Shopping Center lot if you are not patronizing the specific businesses in that shopping center because this is a privately owned lot. Keep in mind, that if you leave the shopping center (even after patronizing one of the businesses) you risk being towed.  We encourage parking in the municipal parking lot adjacent to the Sayville Plaza Shopping Center which offers free parking for all Sayville patrons and businesses and is available for use at all times.  The municipal lot is directly east of the Plaza parking lot and is accessible via Montauk Highway and through the Sayville Plaza Shopping Center lot.
  • If you have been towed and feel as if you have been treated unfairly, contact Suffolk Country Community Affairs to lodge a formal complaint.  They can be reached at: consumer.affairs@suffolkcountyny.gov or via phone at 631-853-4600.

The Chamber will continue to work with all parties involved to resolve this situation as soon as possible and appreciate everyone’s patience in this matter.  The Chamber’s commitment remains to the businesses and patrons on Sayville and assuring that residents, business owners and patrons feel welcomed to visit the town and patronize our businesses.
